Footprints is a must read for anyone who loves Wayne Shorter. The book took over ten years to write and is well worth it. You learn how his childhood and the freedom of his Mother helped him develop into the man he’s became. It walks you thru the history of his musical career and you see that arranging is a big part of who he is as a musician even back with the Art Blakey days. His close friendship with John Coltrane and how that helped him become who he is as a musician. His journey with Miles, the Blue Note years, Weather Report and life after Weather Report - his solo career.What I enjoyed the most is his view of his present quartet with Brian Blaise, Danilo Perez and John Patittucci! With these musicians he feels he’s found his real group who see his vision of how music is supposed to be played - all as one and no one upfront. He is a living legend, I feel he is the Trane of our time, always leading the way to the new frontiers of music never been played this way before.Teddy PantelasThere’s so much in this book, a real page turner!
